Dongdaemun (東大門) or Heunginjumun

The famous Great Eastern Gate

Dong·dae·mun or "Great Eastern Gate" [동대문/東大門] is also called Heung·in·ju·mun or "The Gate of Rising Benevolence" [흥인지/興仁之門]. It was built in 1398. In the old times, Seoul was surrounded by a protective wall built during the Joseon Dynasty and the gates were the only entrances into the city. This one is currently the only one of the four big gates, that looks intact and fully restored. It just looks amazing in real. It's located near the Dongdaemun subway station. You just exit anywhere and you'll see the great gate in all it's glory. Here are some photos I took during my trip.
